Shifting Control
2011–Present | San Rafael, California USA
Self-initiated landscape and spatial study
Shifting Control examines how cultivated space transforms over time as active management recedes. Initially organized through terracing, defined planting systems, and sustained maintenance, the site has gradually evolved through reseeding, migration, and spontaneous occupation. Over time, imposed order gives way to more adaptive ecological patterns, revealing shifting relationships between control, disturbance, and change.
